Effect of Deep Sea Water Containing Chitosan Oligosaccharides on Lipid Metabolism

Abstract
Effect of deep sea water (DSW) containing chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) on lipid metabolism, lipogenesis and lipolysis, was studied in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes, We investigated expression levels of lipogenic genes like sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c (SREBP1c) and fatty acid synthase (FAS), and lipolytic genes like hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) and adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) using RT-PCR, DSW with or without COS inhibited adipocyte differentiation, expressions of lipogenic and lipolytic genes in a dose-dependent manner. These data suggest that DSW containing COS is effective in decreasing lipid metabolism by the regulation of lipogenic and lipolytic gene expressions.
